Accessibility

Everyone should be able to order from us.

We build this site to the WCAG 2.2 AA standard. Where we fall short, we would rather hear about it and fix it than have you give up and phone an order through — though you are always welcome to do that too.

What we’ve done

  • Every page can be operated by keyboard alone, including the catalogue menu and the quote list.
  • A skip link goes straight to the main content, so keyboard users are not walked through the navigation on every page.
  • Headings follow a real outline rather than being chosen for size, so screen-reader users can navigate by structure.
  • Images that carry meaning have alternative text; decorative ones are hidden from assistive technology instead of being announced.
  • Colour is never the only way information is conveyed, and body text meets the AA contrast ratio against its background.
  • Form fields have visible, associated labels, and errors are described in words rather than by colour alone.

What isn’t finished

Stating this plainly is more useful than a badge.

  • The site has not yet had a full independent WCAG 2.2 AA audit. Until it has, we are describing our target rather than claiming conformance.
  • Product data comes from our catalogue system, and some older product descriptions and image alternative text still need rewriting.
  • Some PDFs supplied by manufacturers, including Safety Data Sheets, are not tagged for accessibility. We can read the contents to you over the phone.

Tell us if something blocks you

If any part of this site stops you doing what you came to do, let us know what page it was and what happened. We will get back to you, and if it is stopping you ordering we will take the order over the phone in the meantime.
