Privacy Policy
Last updated 24 September 2026
Byars Hospitality, Cleaning & Packaging Supplies (“Byars”, “we”, “us”) has adopted the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) contained in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), which govern the way we collect, use, disclose, store, secure and dispose of your personal information.
What personal information we collect and why
The personal information we collect may include your name, business name, ABN, address, email address and phone number, and — where you hold a trade account — your delivery and billing details, order history and account records.
We collect this information by email, through our website at byars.com.au, from cookies and similar technologies, over the phone, in our showroom, through our sales representatives, and from third parties.
We collect your personal information for the primary purposes of:
- Processing and fulfilling your orders, quotes and enquiries;
- Setting up and managing your trade account, including credit assessment where an account is requested;
- Arranging delivery;
- Providing information about our products and services; and
- Marketing our products and services to you, where you have consented or where you are an existing customer.
Where appropriate and possible, we will explain why we are collecting the information and how we plan to use it at the time we collect it.
Payments
Our website does not process payments and does not collect or store credit card details.
Orders placed through byars.com.au are placed on account and invoiced. Where payment is taken by other means, it is processed through a registered payment gateway provider, and we do not store your full card details.
Cookies and analytics
When you sign in, our website uses a strictly necessary account-session cookie to keep you authenticated. It also uses browser local storage on your device to keep your quote and cart state and technical submission-recovery records. If an analytics choice is offered, that choice is also kept in local storage.
Browser storage remains on that device until it is cleared by the relevant site workflow or through your browser settings. Blocking or clearing the account cookie or browser storage may sign you out, clear a saved quote or cart, or interrupt submission recovery.
We do not run analytics, advertising or tracking tools on this site at present, and we do not build an analytics profile of the pages you view.
Website forms, search and technical records
Information submitted through account, saved-list, quote, order, trade-account and contact functions is passed to our website and commerce systems so we can provide the requested function, respond to you and process the relevant account, request or order. Depending on the function, it may be held in a private customer, order, application or enquiry record and included in operational notifications to authorised staff or service providers needed to handle the request.
When you use catalogue search, the normalised search phrase and whether it returned results are added to a bounded aggregate counter for catalogue and content planning. We do not attach an account, user, session, IP address or per-search timestamp to that counter, and the website does not retain search queries that look like an email address, secret or long numeric identifier.
Our web servers keep standard access logs that may include an IP address, request time and browser information. Security controls may also use short-lived IP-derived rate-limit records and other technical request data to prevent abuse, protect submissions and keep the site operating securely. These records are not used to build an advertising profile.
Marketing and unsubscribing
We send marketing communications only where you have consented, or where you are an existing customer and the material relates to products and services similar to those we already supply you. Every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, and you may opt out at any time by using it or by contacting us. We will action unsubscribe requests promptly.
Third parties
Where reasonable and practicable, we collect your personal information only from you. In some circumstances we may be provided with information by third parties, including delivery and logistics providers, payment processors, credit reporting bodies where a trade account is requested, and our IT and marketing service providers. In those cases we will take reasonable steps to make you aware of the information provided to us.
Some of our service providers may store or process information outside Australia. Where this occurs, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information continues to be handled in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Disclosure of personal information
Your personal information may be disclosed:
- To third parties where you consent to the use or disclosure;
- To our service providers — including delivery couriers, payment processors, accounting systems and IT providers — to enable us to provide our services to you; and
- Where required or authorised by law.
Security of personal information
Your personal information is stored in a manner that reasonably protects it from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure.
We generally retain customer, account and order records for seven years, consistent with our taxation and accounting obligations. When your personal information is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was obtained and we are no longer required to retain it, we will take reasonable steps to destroy or permanently de-identify it.
In the unlikely event of a data breach likely to result in serious harm, we will comply with our obligations under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, including notifying affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) where required.
Accessing and correcting your information
You may access the personal information we hold about you and request that we update or correct it, subject to certain exceptions. To do so, please contact us in writing. We will not charge a fee for an access request, though we may require identification before releasing the information.
It is important to us that your information is accurate and up to date. If anything we hold is incorrect, please tell us as soon as practicable and we will update our records.
Policy updates
This policy may change from time to time and any changes will be posted on this page. This policy was last updated on 24 September 2026.
